Numbers are estimates based on aggregated wedding-industry data and internal Memo usage. Real counts vary with event style — destination weddings tend to produce 30% more photos, corporate galas 20% fewer.

How we calculate

Each estimate is built from three numbers:

  • Guest photos: guests × average per guest × 80% participation rate. The 80% assumes a modern QR-based upload tool; app-based tools see ~50% participation, halving this number.
  • Professional photos: photographers × hours × keeper rate per hour. Pros average 100–150 keeper shots per hour.
  • Storage: 4 MB per full-resolution photo, 4 MB per second of 1080p video. Modern phones average right around this.

What to do with the result

If you're expecting 1,000+ photos, you'll want a tool with fast browsing thumbnails (most photo apps are slow above 500 photos), a ZIP download (so you don't click-save 2,000 times), and ideally a moderation panel. Memo handles all three out of the box.

FAQ

How many photos does a typical wedding produce?

A 100-guest wedding with one professional photographer typically produces 1,500–2,500 photos in total. About 60% come from the photographer; the rest comes from guests when you give them a frictionless tool. Smaller weddings (30–50 guests) typically produce 500–1,000 photos.

How much storage do I need for my wedding photos?

At full resolution, a wedding album averages 4 MB per photo. A 2,000-photo wedding = roughly 8 GB. Add ~1 GB if you're including short 15-second videos. Memo includes enough storage for every plan; you'll never hit a limit on a typical wedding.

Why do guest participation rates matter so much?

With a no-app tool like Memo, 70–85% of guests upload photos. With an app-based tool that requires installing something, that drops to 40–55%. Doubling participation roughly doubles your guest photo count — often the difference between 400 and 800 candid photos.

Are these numbers accurate?

They're medians from three sources: aggregated wedding-photographer surveys, public industry datasets, and internal Memo album statistics. Real counts vary 30–50% with event style. Destination weddings and multi-day events tend to produce more; corporate galas and short ceremonies fewer.
